There are a few consolation prizes that come out of this, though. This dramatically increases the likelihood for a crossover between Spiderman and Venom (which was also owned by Sony). Venom is one of my favorite characters of all time, so this is only a win in my book.
Also, with Sony finally deciding to outright purchase Insomniac games (which made the most recent and most successful Spiderman video game), it's safe to say that at least as far as video games are concerned, Spiderman has found a comfortable spot once again after so, so long.

I'm super interested to hear why this is the case.

I've pretty much only heard good things about this game, so I bet Sony picking it back up is indeed positive.

Venom (we're talking Eddie Brock here, none of that edgy Flash Thompson garbage) directly references tragic character tropes of the classic and ancient world, giving him a level of depth that I feel many comic book villains and anti-heroes lack. Eddie's rise and "fall" into the hands of the symbiote directly parallels the parable of Nebuchadnezzar written in Daniel 4 of the Old Testament, and call attention to the idea that "pride cometh before the fall".

Eddie Brock investigates the Sin-Eater as a journalist, and is praised by those surrounding him for excelling in all that he does. His pride in his own accomplishments ultimately leads to him being "cast out", losing everything and even becoming animalistic in nature, to the point of running on all fours, much like our aforementioned king of Babylon.
It isn't until that he humbles himself enough to accept Spiderman as a true force of justice that he is able to garner some respect and become a tenuous ally (almost exactly seven years later, much like the journey of Nebuchadnezzar). Carnage, as his successor, fails to learn this message and becomes a true agent of evil, just like Belshazzar succeeding the throne of Babylon.

You don't see writing like that these days. Layered metaphor and ancient traditions are lost to mindless self-indulgence and excessive violence (see Flash Thompson above).

    EDIT:
    TL;DR - Venom's old-school cool.

I had no idea they became allies in the comics - that's pretty neat. Also love the intriguing analysis!

Less Superfriends and more "Batman and Mister Freeze". Forced respect. Venom hates some things more than he hates Spiderman. Namely Carnage.

Butt capitalism also gives us The Terminator in Mortal Kombat 11, so again, the consumer is the winner.

    Fucking lol at Pizza Time

Friend of the forum Chris had a good thought about this:

Think about it. In a world with Twilight, infinite reboots, and mouse-dictated copyright, do yall think we're always going to be like, "oh no, I can't get my spider fix" ?

To be fair, media may not be made by the "canonical" author. But modern problems require modern solutions.

    I love this

Police no longer use predictive crime analytics to hunt down meth houses - those were problems of the past. Police of the future are constantly scraping forums like 2048chan, FurInfinity, and DataSwamp.gov for potential content makers. All generated content is regimented by the Mouse Megacorp™️. Vloggers and influencers exist only on the dark web. Contraband copies of Dr. Weird played by a Benedict Cumberpatch look-alike are swapped in dimly lit subway cars.
